Hyde Park

Parks and Gardens

Just minutes north of Perth’s CBD in the suburb of Highgate, Hyde Park is one of the city’s most picturesque and popular green spaces. Rich in natural beauty and cultural significance, it is also a registered Aboriginal site.

Before European settlement, the area formed part of the traditional lands and wetlands used by the Whadjuk Noongar people. Following colonisation in 1829, it became known as ‘Third Swamp’ before being gazetted as public parkland and renamed Hyde Park.

Today, the park offers a peaceful escape from the city buzz. Its twin lakes, sprawling lawns, and mature trees create a perfect setting for picnics, casual walks, bike rides, and outdoor celebrations. The park is also a sought-after venue for weddings and local events.

Visitors will find a wide range of facilities including a children’s playground, seasonal water playground, public toilets, fitness equipment, shaded gazebos, barbeques, drinking fountains, and accessible walking paths.

Whether you’re enjoying the natural surrounds, exploring its cultural roots, or simply taking time to relax under the trees, Hyde Park is a beloved destination for locals and tourists alike—blending nature, heritage, and recreation in one beautiful city park.
