Adventure and Outdoors Tours

Liya Wanhurr Aboriginal Corporation is an Aboriginal owned and operated company offering tours to Dhalinybuy homeland in East Arnhem Land, NT.

Yolŋu (the traditional custodians of East Arnhem Land) life and culture remains intrinsically connected with the surrounding environment meaning each tour will be uniquely customised to the environmental conditions and the six seasons that make up the Yolŋu calendar.

While no tour is the same, highlights may include experiencing buŋgul (Yolŋu dance and ceremony), learning new skills such as weaving and spear making, exploring the food and medicine resources of the Country, and visiting off the beaten track locations that many residents of East Arnhem don’t even know about!

The Liya Wanhurr Day Tour is a cultural experience starting at Dhalinybuy community in remote East Arnhem Land, Northern Territory.

Visitors drive to Dhalinybuy (approx 1 hour from Nhulunbuy) and are welcomed by the local community through an elaborate traditional dance (buŋgul), followed by a trip to a beautiful local waterfall. Over the course of the tour, guests learn more about the homeland and the surrounding environment, Yolŋu life, history and culture, and develop skills such as spear making and pandanus weaving.

Each tour is tailored to the environment and the time of year, meaning no tour is ever the same.

For corporate teams, cultural immersion visits provide the opportunity to step outside the everyday environment and engage meaningfully with the world’s oldest living culture. Guided by Yolŋu custodians, these experiences foster deeper understanding, respect and connection, while encouraging reflection, stronger relationships and shared learning within teams.

Visitors looking to extend their stay have the opportunity to book a campsite at the nearby Cato River Recreational Area, which is a well established campground with shelters, fire pits and basic toilet facilities.
