Leaning Tree Lagoon Nature Park

National Parks and Reserves

Located 90 km east of Darwin via the Arnhem Highway, Leaning Tree Lagoon is a peaceful spot known for its scenic beauty and abundant birdlife. A favourite with locals for picnics and birdwatching, the lagoon is home to large numbers of Green Pygmy Geese and other unique native wildlife.

This natural lagoon connects to the Adelaide River floodplain during the wet season and becomes isolated in the dry, concentrating wetland fauna in its still waters.

Please note: Saltwater crocodiles inhabit this area year-round. The Adelaide River Coastal Floodplain is believed to have one of the highest crocodile densities in the world. For safety, the park is closed to the public after periods of heavy rain.
