GrainCorp Thallon Silo Art – The Watering Hole

Agri, Mining and Industry

Standing tall on the edge of town, the towering GrainCorp Silos in Thallon are brought to life with the breathtaking mural The Watering Hole, painted in 2017 as part of Australia’s Silo Art Trail. This spectacular artwork has become Thallon’s landmark, celebrating the region’s rich farming landscape and local wildlife. Neatly placed on the Carnarvon Highway and surrounded by prime grain-growing country, the silos draw grain in from Weengallon, Nindigully, Mungindi, Dirranbandi and beyond. For the best view, head to the designated viewing platform and soak it in safely.

While in town, take a break at Thallon’s shady parklands—complete with a playground, picnic tables, free barbecues, and the striking granite ‘Anzac Digger’ war memorial. You’ll also meet William the Wombat, a much-loved sculpture and favourite photo spot for visitors. With its blend of art, history, and small-town charm, Thallon is the perfect stopover in the Balonne Shire.

Of a night time, the Silos Artwork is showcased by a gentle lighting effect. Giving campers the opportunity to experience the ambience and enjoy a quiet outback night. Photographers can capture the starry night sky and the silos from their campsite.
