Watch from the headland of Point Lookout (Mulumba) on North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah) as an estimated 40,000+ whales migrate north. Be captivated as they breach and spout, sending the sparkling waters of southern Moreton Bay high into the air, glistening in the sunlight. Each time you see these magnificent mammals it is as exciting as the last.
Point Lookout is regarded as one of the best land-based whale watching sites on Australia’s eastern coast. It is here that you will find the Minjerribah Panorama Coastal Walk that links from the whale-watching platforms overlooking Frenchmans Beach. This glorious new walk has several picnic areas and viewing points and includes the revamped Frenchmans Stairs that snake down to the beach. It runs south to connect with the iconic 1.2km-long Gorge Walk that twists its way around the rocky headlands. These walks offer the finest vantage points on the island to spot the whales as they pass on their annual migration. You will also have a bird’s eye view of a variety of other marine life, including sea turtles, manta rays, schools of fish and playful dolphins frolicking in the waves.
