Mick the Dog and O’Sullivan Park

Parks and Gardens

The family-friendly O’Sullivan Park is home to the Wandoan Visitor Information Centre, Skate Park, excellent amenities, play equipment and the cherished statue of Mick the Dog.

Enjoy the lovely surrounds as you enter Wandoan and catch a photo with Wandoan’s famous ‘Mick the Dog’ statue and learn about this historic tale of local heroism.

In 1901 an injured stockman fell off his dog. He scratched a message onto his tin matches, threaded it onto his belt and strapped it around the neck of his dog Mick, and sent him home to get help. Mick the Dog saved the life of his owner, Sid McCorry. The statue is a tribute to his beloved companion.

A great location to stop and relax, also home to the Wandoan Soldiers Settlers Avenue of Honour and in close proximity to the Cultural Centre & Wandoan Heritage Stone.
