Werribee River

Natural Attractions

Stroll, cycle, fish, kayak or simply relax along the banks of the Werribee River. The river winds through the very heart of the Werribee region.

You can follow the river using shared bike and walking trails as it winds its way through Werribee, past the farming land in the north, through Werribee City Centre and out to the Werribee River Park. The river eventually travels through to Werribee South Market Gardens, past the K Road Cliffs to Werribee South Beach, where it meets Port Phillip Bay.

Ancient River Red Gums line the banks and the ever-elusive Platypus also calls Werribee River home.

You will see an abundance of birdlife all along the river and you can’t help but hear the birds; cheeky kookaburras, cockatoos and the quarrelsome honeyeater. If you are very quiet, you might also spot wallabies in the woodlands of Werribee River Park.

If you are looking for a family adventure, a great place to start is in Werribee City Centre where you can grab a coffee and head to Wyndham Park, with playgrounds and picnic areas on the banks of the river.
