Dreamtime Kullilla-Art
Things To Do Clontarf, Moreton Bay, Queensland
Located in Clontarf on the outskirts of Brisbane, Dreamtime Kullilla-Art is an experience exactly unlike a touristy souvenir shop. Dreamtime Kullilla-Art is a cultural feast of original and beautiful Aboriginal art, traditional handcrafts, foods and giftware. All by First Nations’ artists. All fully authenticated. All telling the Australian Aboriginal story, reaching back more than 50,000 years, the essence of which, is, the art. You won’t find Aboriginal Art in a souvenir shop, that’s only colour on canvas. Kullilla-Art works and homewares share the stories of the First Nations’ people – from Dreamtime, to now.
Upstairs, enter the private gallery of respected First Nations’ artist Michael Connolly (Munda-gutta Killiwari), Artist in Residence, and explore the works of noteworthy Australian artists. It is from this space that artist, storyteller and cultural consultant, Michael Connolly, both creates and curates pieces for the gallery and also provides bespoke commissions.
From their highly reputable Indigenous art store on Macdonnell road, Michael and his wife Jo, act as advocates for the Indigenous community, curating and selling 100% authentic Aboriginal art, decorative homewares, cultural artifacts and traditional Australian herbs, spices and foods – aka Bush Tucker. Every item in the Dreamtime Kullilla-Art store is “royalty paid” meaning that each purchase is empowering, not exploitative.
